Fact # 1: Your gums worst enemy is bacteria. Plus, when you combine bacteria with enemy #2…plaque…this deadly duo spreads painlessly AND many times, invisibly.

The result: red, sensitive, swollen gums… that start to bleed!

Once your gums are at this point, then you have to REALLY get serious in your fight against bacteria or – you could lose your teeth! Your gum tissue is the soil that your teeth live in.

Once that soil becomes spoiled with bacteria, plaque, and infection, the teeth are considered “at risk”. Here’s what this means for you: If you’re not careful and you neglect healthy oral care… you could loose your teeth one
by one like falling dominoes.

Fact No 2: Sadly, sometimes things have gotten so bad that the only remedy is expensive and painful surgery!
Reports show the cost of surgery on your gums can run as high as $1500 to $2000. What’s more, you have the time and aggravation of multiple, time-consuming visits to the dentist’s office. Plus, expensive medications.

Gum Disease is a Major Issue!!

I hate to disagree, but reducing 1-2 mm from a tooth to place a crown absolutely weakens the tooth and makes it more susceptible to fracture. The metal and porcelain in the cap may be stronger than tooth structure, but ultimately it is the remaining tooth that holds the cap in the jaw. This is particularly true in the front of the mouth. When front teeth are capped for cosmetic purposes, the patient needs to be made aware of this fact. Only porcelain veneers that are placed on the outer surface of the tooth do not weaken the original tooth.

A week ago I had a dental implant (19) and have been very agitated and feelings of anger? I stopped taking the pain medication and amoxicillin within 24 hrs. The swelling has gone down and the pain subsided after the 2nd day. The only thing that changed was the implant, is there a correlation?

hello and sorry for late reply,
The boil you have on your gum and the swelling in your face is usually caused by an abscess. There are many things that can cause an abscess but with your description I think that this abscess is caused by a dead tooth, the tooth pulp death is usually cause by a very deep caries that reached the pulp or an old trauma to the tooth that caused pulp death. any way you will need to see a dentist to extract or treat the affected tooth. you can't leave this untreated because it will be worse over time and also can cause serious complications (I see cases that needs to be hospitalized because of this ) . also if you get this treated early you may preserve your tooth.

thanks and I hope that I was helpful,
Dr A galal

Hi.

Many thanks for all your team has been doing. I have a boil on my outter top gum and it hurts like hell. My face is twice its normal size and I am really really worried. This is the third boil in three months and it seems to come once a month and on the same spot. I would normally treat it with antibiotics and it disappears immediately after only for it to appear again. Now I am so scared of the possible implications and going to a dentist in Nigeria is like working into a graveyard.

I will appeciate all and any help and advise you can give.

Warm Regards
Felix

Nice site, Thank you for usfull info. I have just had 4 teeth extracted and now have a partial denture, of which doesn't fit correctly (I opted to not be toothless for 2 months) has caused a boil and is super annoying (I think my tonge has ocd as i cant not leav the plate alone), I thought that the partial denture option wouldn't have been the cheap n narstiest, even though it is the NHS, and i was led to believe that these would adventualy be great!! I was also considering possible other options for when i return to my dentist i wasn't aware of ANY my partner told me about a fixed bridge and thats all i knew of, That was until I stumbled accross this site, I know 100% i want somthing more permenant I hate seeing myself with huge gaps it make me want to cry, so I avoid taking them out at all! Thank you I know have a few ideas that i can talk to my dentist about

If root canal therapy has a 95% success rate... Why have I lost THREE teeth, due to failed root canal???? Could it be possible that I fell into 5% that fail... 3 times???? With odds like that, I should play the lotto! After spending THOUSANDS of dollars... I lost the teeth anyway! I should get a freakin refund, dammit!

i have a severe overbite and my top front teeth also lean forward from my upper jaw.
Can i have cosmetic dentistry done to improve the straightness of the teeth? i accept this wont change the overbite that can only be done by operation but i would settle for straighter teeth on the overbite, as the way they are currently really upsets me and i have no confidence at all.
Please help

What is the upside of tray-based whitening gels? You get to try them in the comfort of your own home, benefiting from quality teeth whitening products that are effective and inexpensive. Still, you will have to be prepared for a treatment that can last up to several weeks, a couple of hours each day and use only trays that are custom fitted. Your teeth deserve the best you can offer and whitening gels are certainly a good choice!
